Free temporary storage space - Linux computers

The local filesystems /spare on the Debian PCs are free and intended to store students files/directories for temporary use. Write permission is free, although the owner only can remove his files/dirs.  Access is local, with the command cd (cd /spare, mkdir etc.).

Be aware that 1. we don't backup the content of these filesystems, 2. once a week files bigger the 150 Mb are automatically removed 3. the Department is not responsible in case of loss of data stored in the aforementioned filesystem. This space is for temporary use only, not for storing important data. Such data are better stored in personal accounts, where backup is taken twice a week, somewhere else via ftp, or to portable memory devices (USB sticks).
