Description
Objective of the course: To provide students with knowledge related to digital processing of audio signals, particularly regarding coding and compression. Lectures will also address other audio processing issues, such as immersive sound rendering, microphone arrays, audio source separation, etc. The course will give students the opportunity to:
- Enhance their knowledge in signal processing, based on the example of sound signals that helps to better understand theoretical concepts combined with practical applications and acoustic experiments.
- Understand the basic concepts on quantization and coding of signals, and apply them to audio signals.
- Learn the different mathematical audio signal models.
- Learn the basic concepts of psycho-acoustics as they are applied in modern audio signal compression algorithms.
- Learn about time-frequency analysis of audio signals.
- Learn the basic principles behind modern audio compression standards.
- Learn about the recent trends in digital audio processing methods and applications.
