Dr. Kafentzis received the B.Sc. (7.69, Very Good), the M.Sc. (9.38, Excellent), and the Ph.D. (9.25, Excellent) degrees in Computer Science from the Computer Science Department, University of Crete (UoC), Greece, in 2008, 2010, and 2014, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree (tres honorable) in Signal Processing and Telecommuncations from the University of Rennes 1, according to an international joint supervision of a Ph.D. subject.

His PhD thesis is titled "Adaptive Sinusoidal Models with Applications in Speech Modifications and Audio Analysis". This work was funded by France Telecom R&D - Orange Labs.

From February 2008 to October 2010, he was a research assistant in the Telecommunications and Networks Lab (TNL) of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FO.R.T.H), and from February 2008 to June 2014, he was a teaching assistant in Signal Processing related courses in the Computer Science Department of the University of Crete. Dr. Kafentzis was with the Speech Technology Group, Toshiba Research Europe Limited, Cambridge, United Kingdom, from April, 2015 to July 2017.

Currently, he is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Computer Science Department, University of Crete, where he teaches Physics for Engineers (CS-112), Digital Signal Processing (CS-370), and Signals and Systems (CS-215). He is also a member of the Speech Signal Processing Lab, which is part of the Multimedia Informatics Labs of the department.

His research interests lie in the fields of signal processing: speech and audio processing, signal modelling, statistical speech synthesis, and time-frequency analysis.
