About Me
-
General
My name is Anastasis Livanidis. I graduated from the general Paros High School, and I am currently a student in the Computer Science Department in the University of Crete, currently attending my 6th semester (year 3) at the University. My interests include signal processing with applications in speech (vocoders), system software, and software engineering. Hobbies are writing, playing the piano, singing and playing tabletop games.

Signal Processing Work
I started attending signal processing courses as early as in my 2nd semester (Signals and Systems), followed by Digital Signal Processing and a masters course in speech processing during my 4th semester. I attended the SPCC summer school in 2017. I currently work at the signal processing lab in CSD under Dr.George P. Kafentzis and look forward to learning the next generation models for speech - neural networks. Signal processing and neural networks will most likely be my major during my masters.
-
System Software Work
In CSD, we have many mandatory courses in system software, and as a result many end up liking it a lot, myself included. I worked in ICS-FORTH/CARV during both my summer breaks in both hardware and system software
-
Software Engineering Work
In this section, I would like to mention my award in the Object Oriented Programming course. Me along with one more student, amongst 163 students, were awarded the best exercise award in a project about developing a role-playing game. Software Engineering is nice and interesting and I will probably take at least one more course in this domain.

Hobbies
-
Writing
I really enjoy writing stories and am currently in the middle of writing a novel. You can see an example of my work here
I also enjoy preparing stories for and managing tabletop RPGs, an aftereffect of my interest in both writing and game development
-
Music
Music is an integral part of my life. I started playing the piano when I was around 7 years old, and haven't stopped since. I really like expressing myself with Chopin's Nocturnes, or bringing out my skills with Bach and Beethoven. I have completed basic music theory courses and harmony courses during my middle and high school years, and have been a part of a choir for most of that time. I am currently part of the AR conservatory choir in Heraklion, and we had multiple concerts in which we performed, among others, "Credo" by Vivaldi and "Magnificat" by Durante.

Tabletop Games
Good Work requires Good Rest
--J.StylianouMind games were my cup of tea since forever. Even at the times where I'm not debugging a 1000-line-long project, or I'm not reading a paper for the next lab meeting, or not commiting my changes to BitBucket through git, or not brainstorming over a whiteboard with the other members of a certain project, I like to spend my time playing tabletop games. From Settlers of Catan, to Dungeons and Dragons, I have no problem with anything. What matters is that we have fun with friends and colleagues. As a part of another project in the Object Oriented Programming course I mentioned before, I developed a video-game version of the 'PayDay' tabletop game.
