Assignments

3 assignments will be announced during the semester.

Project

The course participants will be split into teams. Each team will choose and read 15 papers relevant to a specific subject. The selected papers will be presented throughout the semester through informal discussions in the class. The teams are free to choose the papers (or surveys) from acknowledged conferences and journals. Some examples of such resources can be found in Papers section. The subject of the project can include:

  • use of sensors, wireless devices and mobile computing systems in health care domain (e.g., for the identification and/or monitoring of a medical condition)
  • use of drones for the notification and response/aid of an emergency/disaster (e.g., fire spread prevention)
  • use of AR/VR technologies and services for educational purposes and how networking architectures and systems can be improved to better support them
  • use of nanotechnology and sophisticated materials for the improvement of the wireless communications
At the end of the semester each team has to deliver a report of the proposed novel system. In this report they will describe:
  1. the main goals of the system (problems it tries to address),
  2. the main properties of the system and its functionality (without need to delve into detail for the architecture/systems that support it. this should be part of the next paragraph,
  3. its novelty: how does the proposed system differ from the existing ones (refer to bibliography, from the 15 papers that they have selected),
  4. the main problems and challenges they will face in the implementation phase,
  5. the architecture/systems to support it,
  6. its performance analysis.
The system will not be developed during the semester, but the report will have to describe all the aforementioned issues. All the proposed systems will be presented by the team membrs at the end of the semester.
