CS-539 Advanced Topics on Wireless Networks and Mobile Computing Fall semester 2020 |
Instructor : Maria Papadopouli
About the course :
CS539 is graduate-level course on wireless networks and mobile computing. It introduces the fundamental concepts of wireless networks, radio propagation, and physical layer. It includes an extensive discussion about the physical and MAC layer, IEEE802.11, location-sensing systems, and sensor networks. It also covers specialized topics such as quality of experience (QoE) of real-time services, mobile computing in health-care, Internet of Things, Edge Computing, MIMOs, ad hoc networking, crowd-sourcing/sensing, and recommendation systems. The course also includes theoretical and programming/development projects that will enable students to experiment with the wireless networks and mobile computing.
We will also focus on the use of wireless networking technology, sensors, and mobile computing in the area of health care.
Students will be encouraged to study and experiment with applications in this domain.
Another distinct aspect of the course is its statistical analysis and machine-learning techniques for analyzing measurements and modeling.
Specifically, it includes lectures and labs on hypothesis testing, correlation, linear regression, clustering, feature extraction, and deep learning.
