Forthroid

Description:

The Forthroid is a location-based system that “augments” physical objects with multimedia information and enables users to receive information about physical objects or request services related to physical objects e.g., a printing service associated with a printer. It can also be used as a location-sensing system, since it is capable of estimating the distance of the user from the physical object with high accuracy.

The Forthroid is based on the client-server paradigm and employs computer-vision techniques and Quick Response codes (QR-codes). We have implemented a prototype on Android platforms and evaluated its performance using system metrics (response delay, CPU load, battery consumption) and subjective tests. In this project, we discuss the implementation of the Forthroid, as well as general challenges in prototyping on the Android Operating System.
